Five Apples

Updated: Jan 27, 2022

Can you commit to eating five apples per week? If apples aren’t your thing, don’t stop reading, but perhaps choose a different fruit or a vegetable. Maybe five pears, or five carrots?

People often say that they want to eat more healthily but they don’t know where to start. It’s as simple as going to the market and buying five apples (or more if you are so inclined), and committing to eating all of them in one week. When you feel hungry (and it’s good to feel hungry, so let yourself get hungry), reach for one of those apples FIRST, before you reach for anything else. This may seem like a small act, but it can actually make a huge difference because by committing to make this choice five times, you are reinforcing your commitment to nourish yourself FIVE times in one week. Many of us are not in the habit of doing this yet. We grab whatever is in reach or what sounds easy or yummy, and end up depriving our bodies of the nutrients it deserves. Committing to eating five apples a week can be a first step in beginning to build healthy eating habits.

So, bring some apples home and put them in a bowl on your counter. They make a nice centerpiece! You don’t have to eat them whole- you can cut them into slices, sprinkle them with cinnamon, or eat them with some peanut butter. You can even sprinkle some salt and pepper and/or lemon juice. Or, just grab and go- whatever you like. Don’t forget to choose apples as one of your habits on My Weekly Wins and start swiping!

Personal note: When I start to feel like I am getting off track and not making the best choices, I always go back to basics. And for me, that means apples. In fact, before we named our mobile application ‘My Weekly Wins,’ we called it ‘Five Apples.’ Unfortunately, Apple corporation threatened to sue us if we tried to use the word ‘apple’ in our business name. We don’t have the resources to fight Apple, so we changed our name.
